Direct-to-disc has been and still is the biggest challenge in audiophile musicproduction. Unforgettable are the works of Sheffield, Jeton and courageouscutting engineers like Stan Ricker, who out-maxed the technical possibilities ofthat time by provocative back-cutting.
The Stockfisch sound engineers mixed the sound of seven microphones in an analogmixer to a stereo sum. They enjoyed this creative listening phase whilst doingthis exciting down-mix. The musicians played two sets of four pieces – live,there were no edits or digital tricks involved.
